From the Executive Director: Partnering for health translation impact

Since 2017, Monash Partners has been pleased to partner with Equity Trustees through the Medical Research and Health Partner Program.

The Equity Trustees Program generously supports the career development of early to mid-career researchers and a wide range of translational research projects responding directly to the needs of communities, health providers and health services.

This year, the following three projects have been made possible through the partnership:

  • Improving cervical cancer screening in women with severe mental illness attending mental health services, led by Professor Megan Galbally.
  • Improving access and uptake of vaccines in pregnancy through co-design, led by Professor Michelle Giles.
  • The SMART-AF Project: SMART device guided risk factor optimisation for Atrial Fibrillation, led by Associate Professor Sandeep Prabhu.

Equity Trustees have also supported Dr Chong Chyn Chua, an early career researcher who has been awarded a Monash Partners STAR Clinician Fellowship to explore acute myeloid leukaemia. Dr Chua’s research will investigate personalised treatment strategies to improve outcomes for this particular population.

We commend Equity Trustees’ ongoing commitment to a collaborative partnership model and vision around linking researchers with health professionals to generate and rapidly translate research into clinical care. We also acknowledge the generosity of the charitable trusts managed by Equity Trustees and their continuing support.

In other news, Monash Partners wishes to congratulate Dr Toby Jeffcote, an early career clinician researcher, who has been awarded a STAR Clinician Fellowship to undertake health services research to improve outcomes for patients with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury. Upon acceptance of the Fellowship, Toby said “Moderate to severe traumatic brain injury is a devastating disease with profoundly negative impacts on patients, families and the wider community. Our project aims to embed prospective research, quality improvement and clinical innovation into a cohesive health system research project which delivers better outcomes for patients.”
