From the Executive Director: Funding awarded to support research translation

I am delighted to report that the Australian Government is investing $12 million to support Australia’s 12 NHMRC-accredited Research Translation Centres (RTCs), with Monash Partners, receiving $1 million through the NHMRC’s 2025-26 Supporting Research Translation Centres grant opportunity. With this funding, we will continue to strengthen collaboration between researchers, health services, and communities, build capacity in research translation, and drive innovations that deliver better health outcomes for all Australians. We thank the Australian Government and NHMRC for their ongoing support. Read more here.

Further to this, Equity Trustees have announced the continuation of our existing partnership for another five years with Monash Partners receiving a further $2,946,945 to be provided for research to improve the health of children and those living with cancer, heart disease, depression and stroke. Our partnership with Equity Trustees commenced in 2017 and over that time we have worked together to improve the lives of children, young and older people; support the career development of clinicians and early to mid-career researchers, including females; and aid research that translates into community impact and better health. We commend Equity Trustees’ ongoing commitment to a collaborative partnership model and acknowledge the generosity of the charitable trusts managed by Equity Trustees and their continuing support. Instrumental to this partnership has been Monash Partners Chief Operating Officer, Dr Angela Jones. After a decade of extraordinary service, we bid a heartfelt farewell to Angela, whose leadership has been instrumental in shaping Monash Partners into the success it is today.

Angela has been more than just our Chief Operating Officer—she has been a guiding force, leading with vision, wisdom, and grace. Her deep understanding of the organisation and the broader national research landscape has made her an invaluable asset. From her leadership in consumer and community involvement to championing primary care and the formation of the state-wide Falls Network, Angela’s impact has been profound. Her emotional intelligence, calm presence, and ability to unite diverse voices have left a lasting legacy. As she steps away, we reflect with gratitude on her contributions and the strong foundation she leaves behind. Angela, thank you for your outstanding leadership, you will be deeply missed.

I am pleased to advise that Sherryn Bowker has been appointed as the new Chief Operating Officer and will commence on July 22. Sherryn is a healthcare executive with over 25 years’ experience in leadership, operations, governance and delivery of complex multi-million-dollar projects in Australia and internationally. With a strong clinical background, she has a deep understanding of the healthcare landscape at State and National levels and has produced significant, positive outcomes for organisations including Epworth HealthCare, the Victorian Department of Health and Ramsay Health Care.

Please join me in congratulating Sherryn on her appointment.
