From the Executive Director: Supporting the next generation of clinical academic leaders

When I first stepped into the role of Executive Director in early 2024, our Partners shared a clear and compelling message: they wanted increased support for early and mid-career clinician researchers. We listened—and we acted.

Through our valued partnership with Equity Trustees, Monash Partners is proud to continue building capacity in clinical academic careers by expanding the Strategic Translation and Research (STAR) Fellowship Program. These Fellowships are designed to empower clinician academics with the resources, mentorship, and protected time they need to integrate research with clinical care—ultimately driving real-world health impact.

We are delighted to announce two new STAR Fellowships focused on translational research in mental health and cancer:

  • Becca Allchin, Eastern Health
  • Project: Co-developing routine monitoring tools and feedback loops for FaPMI programs

This initiative will enable children and families affected by parental mental ill health to actively shape the design and delivery of programs that support their wellbeing.

  • Adrian Minson, Cabrini Health
  • Project: Resistance-guided sequencing of CAR T-Cell and bispecific antibody therapies in high-risk B-cell lymphomas

This work will accelerate the equitable delivery of advanced immunotherapies for patients with high-risk lymphoma.

These Fellowships reflect our commitment to translational research that responds directly to community needs and transforms healthcare delivery. With seven STAR Fellows now funded across four Health Service Partners—and eight more Fellowships to be appointed next year—we are proud of the growing impact our Fellows are making.

We thank Equity Trustees for their continued support, the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) for their future support of our Fellows and our Partners for their ongoing feedback and collaboration. Together, we are shaping a future where research and clinical care go hand in hand to improve health outcomes.
