From the Executive Director: Championing consumer and community voices in health research

At Monash Partners, we believe that research should reflect the voices and priorities of the people it aims to benefit. That’s why consumer and community involvement (CCI) is central to everything we do. By partnering with patients, carers, and members of the community, we ensure that health research is guided by lived experience and informed by diverse perspectives. This collaboration leads to research that is more relevant, equitable, and impactful—ultimately improving health outcomes across our communities.

To continue building capability in this space, Monash Partners recently hosted the webinar “Strengthening NHMRC/MRFF Applications through Authentic Consumer and Community Involvement“. CCI is no longer optional — it’s now a core expectation of NHMRC funding and a growing focus across all major research funding bodies. The session offered practical guidance for researchers on how to embed meaningful partnerships with consumers throughout their grant applications—ensuring that CCI is both genuine and strategic from the outset.

We are also proud to announce the launch of the Health Research Hub, a new national digital resource designed to guide the implementation of effective consumer and community involvement. The Hub provides access to high-quality tools, frameworks, and examples to support researchers, consumers, and healthcare professionals in co-designing and conducting impactful research.

The Health Research Hub is an initiative led by Monash Partners, the Monash Centre for Health Research and Implementation, Monash University, and the Western Australia Health Translation Network, in partnership with the Australian Health Research Alliance (AHRA).
