From the Executive Director: Welcoming the NHMRC Research Translation Strategy 2026-2030

The release of the NHMRC Research Translation Strategy 2026-2030 is an important milestone for Australia’s health and medical research sector. As part of the Australian Health Research Alliance (AHRA) network, Monash Partners welcomes the Strategy and its strong focus on accelerating the translation of research into improved health outcomes, stronger health systems and greater benefit for Australian communities.

Importantly, the Strategy recognises the critical role of Research Translation Centres in bridging the gap between research discovery and implementation. This reflects the work Monash Partners undertakes every day – bringing together researchers, clinicians, consumers, health services and policymakers to ensure evidence is translated into practice and meaningful improvements in care.

The Strategy aligns strongly with Monash Partners’ mission and strategic direction. Its focus on partnerships, research translation capability, and equitable access to research outcomes mirrors the collaborative approach that underpins our work across Victoria’s health and research ecosystem.

We also welcome the emphasis on place-based research and translation, including investment in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led research and rural, regional and remote communities. These priorities recognise that better health outcomes require solutions shaped by local needs and lived experience.

As Chair of the Australian Health Research Alliance (AHRA), I am encouraged by this national commitment to strengthening research translation and the recognition that Research Translation Centres provide the infrastructure, partnerships and expertise needed to connect research with healthcare challenges. The Strategy provides a clear framework for ensuring Australia’s world-leading research delivers tangible benefits for patients, communities and health services.

Monash Partners looks forward to continuing to work across healthcare, research, government and the community to support implementation of the Strategy and strengthen the pathway from evidence to impact.
