How many consumers?
There is no set number of consumers to involve in a research or healthcare improvement project. Your question and approach to consumer involvement will guide this. We recommend involving as many consumers as possible and is practical, to ensure a wide range of perspectives are gained. Involving only one consumer in a project may result in tokenism rather than meaningful engagement.
For committees, try always to have at least two or more consumers. Consumers often prefer to work with a second consumer in the room for support. So when thinking about the consumer role, this is important to consider in the role description and budget.
